Paul Dean was one half of our class of '61's C O L T M A S C O T and depending on who you talked to was either the HEAD OR the BUTT but either way those of us lucky enough to be CRAWFORD CHEERLEADERS OUR SENIOR YEAR considered OUR COLT and PEP BOTTLE devised by our GUYS with Dry ICE and a little WATER was what brought our whole team SPIRIT TO LIFE. Classmates.com says I have 410 MSGS and they contact me everyday to give me a list of names and ask me to tell people I remember them or read the latest msgs. With the largest class from the Crawford Opening in 1959 You would be surprised because I remember practically everyone but now wonder how classmates 3 or 4 years younger seem to think they remember me. Classmates finally is allowing us to exchange personal email addresses rather than making their $ Connecting thru them. THEY ARE PROBABLY JUST SURPRISED I'm STILL ALIVE. Yes the Calendar tells me that I now hit the 80 threshold but love it when people practically scream "NO WAY"...but must admit I have beeen blessed with good health ...and going to work at 15 1/2 at J C PENNEY in NorthPark was out of Necessity & kept me away from the Beach and when Tanning Salons became the rage I didn't have money for that which now I should be thankful for. Someone asked me in an email the other Day if I still did Back Flips...well I have pictures of high Jumps but i would break my Back if I tried that today.
I stumbled across something the other day that we would all consider Contemplating to Read I just need to figure out where to post it for all of us it applys to...It Begins..."THE 1 %ers...99% of those born between 1930 and 1946 worldwide are now gone. . . IF YOU WERE BORN IN THIS TIME SPAN, YOU ARE ONE OF THE RARE ONE PERCENTERS OF THIS SPECIAL GROUP...WE LIVED IN THE BEST OF TIMES BRINGING ON ROCK & ROLL AND DEVICES ONLY DICK TRACY COMICS COULD ASSUME WE WOULD HAVE... Michaelyn Doctor would take me home to her Condo and we learned to Dance w/AMERICAN BANDSTAND and Door Knobs...And thats all we needed to feel part of "THE IN CROWD."
Paul and Nelly fell in Love in High School and enjoyed their whole lives as one. Our Year Book says he planned to go thru Dental School but he must have been the Finest Dermatologist Ever. (My BESTIE CAROL CASSELL Married Dr. Max Crigger who was a Dentist so ahead of his time that he taught Todays Dentistry at Loma Linda University. Their invitation to stay at their beach house just south of Coronado blessed me to stay with them during a couple of Reunions and when my Father died at 102 on July 6th 2023. and Sandie Robbins Knox invited a few of you to lunch with us at a Mexican Restaurant in the Shadow of Grossmont Hospital some came on a busy holiday weekend.
But I only have the privilege of a small space to allow Nelly to Know of our never ending Love and respect for them as they stood out from the crowd in every area they served. Your Pain of Separation will be allieved when others like me share our FAITH and Knowlege that PAUL will be waiting for you when you walk thru the door he has just passed thru and that REUNION will be forever... THE BEST IS YET TO COME. After all these years my Crawford Year Book has remained on a most special shelf near my Desk & Computer. I also kept daily Diary pages from 8th Grade till our Graduation...When our Family moved just 2 exits North of the Utah State Capital Bldg after 50 years I found them again and insisted i take them to an apt we rented while rebuilding a bit downsized home. There is a long but they say interesting story after that Graduation time that Shaped me into the person I was destined to become. I am in constant Contact with other Crawford Friends either here there and everywhere...Terry Milne Tenney '61 & David Willardson Class of '60 who had Disney beat a Path to his Door because of his awesome talents (Don't tell anyone I know where he is because every car lover particularly at CRAWFORD & HOOVER recognized his Pin Striping Talents...and CheerLeaders from 2 years before me have begged me for contact info but he knew he could trust me not to do that...
Classmates.com begs me weekly to update photos and I'm just about ready to do that. You all know that I was never considered THE CUTEST OR MOST BEAUTIFUL & JUST FELT GRATEFUL IF MY PERSONALITY WAS WARM AND SINCERE & IT TAUGHT ME THAT LIFE TAUGHT ME THAT IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MATTERS MOST. SO FROM BRAZIL TO HAWAII TO IDAHO AND SACRAMENTO AND EVEN ONE WIFE AFTER I SENT A COUPLE OF 9TH GRADE PICS TEXTED BACK..."DON'T EVER TRY TO CONTACT HIM AGAIN ! " LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME AS I'M SURE IT WAS TO THE DEANS WHICH MAKES US ALL WISH TO KEEP ON KEEPING ON. In a week and 2 Days it will be 3 years since my Husband passed...I knew the Bedroom he wanted and put his clothes in there & still take people down to take what ever they want from a fine dresser.

Dottie and Ginny were SongLeaders in the Class Of 1960 and such LEADERS to those that followed in the Class of '61. They stayed after school for weeks giving of their time and TALENTS Teaching groups of about 40 as I remember the skills which would be passed on from one TEAM TO THE NEXT.
Before Voting took place I don't think that anyone of us had any idea who the honor that would be passed on to and Just how it would change our lives The support one feels for Sports Teams and Coaches that gave their all and that RED/ WHITE AND BLUE CRAWFORD School Spirit FOLLOWS US TO THIS DAY.
CAROL/GAIL/MARION/MARTHA AND I (SHARON) WERE JOINED BY CHEER LEADERS STEVE/ERNIE/JERRY AND THE PEP BOTTLE FILLED WITH DRY ICE AND WHEN UN CORKED & A BIT OF WATER Added JUST MADE UNENDING SCHOOL SPIRIT FLOW like steam FROM THE BOTTLE. Students of Competing Schools Could hardly believe what they were Hearing as they watched such a new school erupt WITH LOUD CHEERS FOR OUR TEAMS and our ALMA MATER. Not to be forgotten there was Mike and Marc who were in the fantastic COLT Costume and I won't tell you who was in "the FRONT Position and who was the BACK SIDE" but they completed our SQUAD. HOW MANY SPORTS DID WE WIN THAT YEAR ? I doubt any of us could acurately tell you because TO US WE CHEERED LIKE WE WERE #1 IN THEM ALL !
Does our CLASS OF '60 '61 REMEMBER Dottie and Ginny and the rest? YOU BET WE DO. I know her life had to have been filled with happiness we witnessed in San Diego by Crawford HS Class of '59 '60 as the first Graduating Class...AND YOU KNOW WHAT? IT WASN"T YOUR CHEER SQUADS WHO WERE SO SPECIAL
BUT STUDENTS LIKE THOSE WHO STOPPED THEIR BUSY LIVES TO READ THIS & RECALL THE PARTS THEIR LIVES PLAYED. . . Never To Be Forgotten x x REST IN PEACE DOTTIE

Can't believe you grew up in my very neighborhood Johnny. I was a Songleader my Senior year with Marion Passas and just sent an email to two of the others about Lanny's passing That I'm in constant contact with. Donna Beard loaned me three of the most gorgeous dresses I ever wore to PROMS and I have pictures in my front yard. I can remember neighborhood Hide n'seeks we'd have at night. Doug Buckalew was my age as was Gary Deines. I was probably more familiar to you as a girl friend of someone that you were friends with too.(that I'd just like to forget.) I live in Salt Lake City and have since attending BYU in 1961 and graduating in 1964...Childhood memories also were roller skating all summer long when a key practically left every pair of shoes broken in half...How did we live thru Telephones with 3 & 6 food cords, Clothes lines and TV'S w/antennas and test tubes? MY Dad still lives at the house In Dennstead Villiage they bought when I was in 4th grade on Redwood and Chollas Station Road. He'll be 94 in March.

Hello Teddy. Our Family loved your Mom and sisters so much. My Dad is still in the same home as where we lived since I was in 4th Grade at Oak Park Elementary. I visited him in January for a few days and he will be 96 on the 24th. Please tell the girls hello for me xx
Thanks Don for informing our class of Marc Friedman. Those of us who had the privilege of rubbing shoulders with one another at Crawford have never forgotten the positive influence we all had from the one another.
I always admired Marc and Mike for the incredible job they did as our Colt Mascot. They were so fun and their enthusiasm gave the our Atheletes so deserved. I will never ever forget that first FootBall Practice or Game in which Jeff Greenleaf was injured and paralized for life. I don't think anyone our Ages could understand what that meant. Cheerleaders visited him in the hospital and at his family home near SDSU. I also wrote him a couple times a year and his mother said it meant alot. After that they moved to VanCouver Washington and I lost touch. I still email Carol Cassell and Gail Bobrof and Terry Milne and Ernie Dronenburg & Bob Richardson
More even if I just thought about it a minute. I see that you had been trained as a mortition and may have been hired by Greenwood. Our family has all signed up to be organ donors and may even donate our bodies for science.
I can promise you that leaving this life is not the end but rather just the beginning of Eternity. Recently I saw a quote that said "In My Fathers House are Many Mansions. . . I hope mine is next to yours."
It has been my privilege to take care of many many Elderly Men and Women that I loved. I probably have as many obituarys saved as their were grads in our class(did you know that was 600 plus?) I just know that Marc would not have wanted to remain on earth unable to even speak. And he left this earth better than he found it. Looking at our Year books a bit the last bit I so appreciate all the sweet things class mates had to say.

GUESS I KEEP THE YEAR BOOK BECAUSE THEY WERE THE GLORY YEARS...SO IF ANYONE FROM 61' NEEDS ANYTHING FROM IT JUST LET ME KNOW.
