Ron Roche for me dates back to 1960 at Rolando Little League. We were friends but became closer as Fraternity Brothers at SDSU. By now, "Camel" is no longer playing baseball at Mesa and was a very, very popular member of the frat. He would say, "well we can always take my van"....as we loaded up into the back and rolled into yet another Road Trip. Boys will be boys.
Ron's baseball skills were simply incredible in our Fast Pitch Softball Days. Man oh man could he HIT! Ron could hit a ground ball to the left or right of 2nd base so hard, sometimes the Centerfielder could not cut it off! With absolutely NO foot speed, he would leg out a Home Run.
He and I played a game within the game as well. He loved picking off runners and would give us the sign to be ready on the following pitch. Bang runner You're out!
One fine summer day, we were playing a version of Over the Line on the Girls Field at SDSU. Ron hit a ball so far it was simply rediculous. We measured the distance accross the field to the sidewalk at 250 feet. Ron's hit went over that sidewalk, over the bushes and ON TOP OF THE MUSIC BUILDING under construction then. (4 stories high)
He hit it so far, we shrugged and said "fine show off, you go get it". Well as 20 year old boys are want to do, we ditched him and jumped into the pool over at Peterson Gym. He was pissed later back at the TKE House.
When Cams and Carmen moved from San Diego, it was a sad day. He was a good friend to me and a beloved TKE Brother.

Josie, I ran into Sue H on Thanksgiving day. She mentioned her friendship with you and I wish to say hello
With a wit like a blade, Randy capitalized on his quick mind more than anyone I ever knew. We picked on him physically a bit at Horace Mann.. it never phased him.
Some may remember his work on the School Newspaper and our Anual.
Randy and I joined the same Fraternity at SDSU. There he had a great time and a wonderful opportunity to explore just how far that wit could take him. Soon, he reasoned that a formal education was not his calling and he left State to work at the May Company.
As the years passed he moved to Philadelphia (work related) but was transferred back to California. I visited him in LA where, once again, he had taken that quick with a joke and light up your smoke personality out for a spin. Randy loved his life in LA.
One day, he called me and told me about his company Promar. He invited me to join him for a Lakers Game. By this time, Randy Peskin had become the biggest "splash" of anyome I knew. He introduced me to players like AC Green, Magic Johnson, and Carl Malone!
When he brought Jerry West over, Jerry said to me, " Pete? You are Randy's friend? I didn't know he had any". (Jerry West is a Hall of Fame Player and was GM at the time of the LA Lakers) This told me an unbelievable truth, that Randy was trully rolling with the Big Boys.
When Randy passed, the family asked me to right the Eulogy. Flattered but reluctant, I agreed with the condition that Gary Eastwood (remember the Buckwheat?) would read it. Well Gary only got through 2 paragraphs and I was compelled to take over.
Randy's story is simply an amazing and surprizing saga. I miss him.
My Sister RayLynne Class of 63 got me interested in Crawford sports in her time. I still care and track results. My Father got me interested in SDSU sports about the same time and I still care.
Today I bleed San Diego Sports Teams' results and still care.
One more thought, fate brought me face to face with my longest running friend-for-life...
Paul Edge (from our class) we have been friends now for 62 years and still hoist a cold one from time to time, which I think is amazing...don't you?
