Favorite CHS Memory:

When Bill Copeland & I had a sword fight in the Senior Mall & when Erv Somogyi was elected Student Body President because Elna Chapik blew her Kennedy Speech. When I complained that there were no Black students enrolled at that time, but 20 years later drove by to see some changes in that prejudice. I was a wounded veteran from Vietnam service so I saw a bunch of those kids there, too. The neighborhood!

Share a true miracle that happened to you!

Which one? They're still happening, moving within. I did like that Betty Blackman & I went to the Hotel Del Coronado for Senior Prom. That was kind of like a miracle.
While we were driving to get there, the preacher on the car radio asked us to kneel down & pray along with him while we placed a special fabric over the radio to insure some Spirit would gather among us. Luckily we were only driving at about 45 mph, so it wasn't too dangerous after all.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Like all the high school students used to write in their Yearbooks, I would like to share my old smelly gym socks with anyone with the nostrils to withstand them.

Steve was one of my best friends at Crawford.  His dad worked as a veterinarian at the dog races in TJ.  Steve was hot about the Kingston Trio & had all their albums.  He also was the early fan of Theodore Bikel songs, which were in Hebrew & Yiddish, mostly.   After Crawford I went to live on a dairy farm in the San Joaquin.  Steve came to visit me after his visit to Israel.  He didn't like it there.  He went to work for American Airlines, but was not finding any hapiness in adult life in America.  At that point, I lost touch with him.  He became a victim of hard drugs.  I was just lookin' for soft ones.

Steve has a successful older brother named Bradley, who became rich in the stock market & was part of the Los Angeles select & ran their big auditorium.  In the early days of San Diego, Brad was my brother's room mate.

However, in Seve;s & my age set, it was considered a plus if you could sponser some social protest, or be a bit rebellious.  There was no place waiting to welcome us into Adult Society, either after High School or beyond.

Steve was one of the sensitive people.  His favorite book was *The Last Angry Man*.  That was kind of his shtick.  In our Society, it could easily be that the sensitive among us fall like flies.  And so it was.
